I Low Key Moved to Nova Scotia
Come visit my garden paradise.
I’ve lived in Vancouver for a very long time. So long that I now tell people “I’m from Vancouver”. That isn’t true, of course, but it feels true after 25 years of living here. As I write this I am in Vancouver. For the last few years, however, I have been called to make a big change in life. I didn’t know exactly what that looked like, but maybe it had something to do with not having children, and needing to express my creative energy elsewhere.
A friend and I originally were going to buy land together, and build a sort of glamping/retreat centre. I was the business mastermind and marketer, she was the homesteader gardener type. Perfect right? Except, she ended up falling in love and moving across the country. Plan B ended up being me looking for my own property to build out the vision.
What vision?
Here it is folks! My intention is to create a beautiful serene space that invites movement, creation, stillness and reflection. A place near water that gets still enough to form dazzling mirrorlike reflections. Yes I just used reflection again. I wasn’t exactly sure what I was looking for, but I’ve been looking for the past couple of years, you could say. The day came when I looked at a few properties, and this one property was close to a town, and along a river with a beautiful tree lined curvy street. I thought to myself, I could happily imagine driving along this road every day on my way home. The road has a shoulder, as well, so I can live out my Atlantic cycling dreams, and host cyclists who are also living out their Atlantic cycling dreams.
The house is old, but very well taken care of. Very well loved. You can tell from the moment you see it. And actually, so are the rest of the houses along the road. They are all brightly coloured, happy houses with people who take pride in looking after them. There’s a lot of greenery there, and plants can easily start to take over (much like BC), but I like that. I like a little wild nature to keep you on your toes.
I won’t go into too much detail now about the house, as I write this I haven’t moved there yet. But the plan is to drive across the country in August and start my new life as East Coaster. I will be hosting people from near and far, and would love for you to come visit me and the house! I have it listed on Airbnb until I live there full time and then will rent out the suite upstairs. If you’re curious, here’s the listing!
